Umatilla County Historical Society / Heritage Luncheon 2012
When: Saturday, March 10th at 12:00 noon
Where: Cayuse room / Wildhorse Resort and Casino
Cost: $40 for UCHS members; $50 for non-members

Lunch Menu: Wildhorse Country Buffet / Lemon-grilled salmon. St. Louis BBQ pork rib, pasta salad, corn on the cob, roasted red potatoes, mixed green garden salad with ranch and Italian Vinaigrette, seasonal sliced watermelon, freshly baked cheddar and herb biscuits with garlic butter, pastry chef dessert selection.
Speaker: Jonna Doolittle Hoppes re her grandfather, Jimmy Doolittle / the Doolittle Raiders, WWII; Bio: Jonna Doolittle Hoppes grew up an Air Force Brat and developed a passion for preserving military and aviation history. The granddaughter of General James H. “Jimmy” Doolittle, she has written two books: "Calculated Risk", a biography/memoir about her grandparents and "Just Doing My Job", a collection of 19 stories from World War II. Her lecture series keeps her busy touring the United States and Europe. Jonna works for the Department of Defense at Los Angeles Air Force Base. She has appeared on numerous television programs including the History "Channel’s Man, Moment, Machine" and a special documentary on Jake DeShazer. Jonna lives in Newport Beach, California.

Photo Display Honoring Service Men and Women / Special Invitation to Guests: We are inviting our guests to supply photos of themselves or family members (preferably in uniform) who have served in the military – all wars. We will display these photos on specials boards at the luncheon.

ANNUAL & COMPLETED EVENTS
OLD IRON SHOW - The 9th annual show will be held Saturday, June 2, 8:00 am - Dusk and Sunday, June 3, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, 2012 in Roy Raley Park, Pendleton, Oregon. See details in the Education section of this web page under Public Programs and scroll down to Old Iron Show for further information on next year's show.
CENTURY FARM TOUR - Visit farms/ranches that have been one family's ownership for 100 or more years. See historic barns of the area and conclude with a dinner often at one of the ranches on the tour. The tour is usually held on a Saturday in June. Contact the museum for details at 541-276-0012.
TURKEY SHOOT - October 16, 2011- Our third year was held with fun, games, markmanship challenges and lots of prizes, good food, and warm camaraderie. Many people came and had a great time. Proceeds will be used for programs at the museum. Next year will be even bigger and more fun!.
"GHOSTS OF UMATILLA COUNTY Part 1 Voices from the Grave" Saturday, October 29th 12:30-3:30 led by Keith May. Tour of 4 cemeteries includes lessons about iconography of headstones and stories about cemetery occupants. $5 for UCHS members, $10.00 for non-members.


Keith May, retired teacher and local historian leads a tour of 4 historic cemeteries in the Helix - Holdman areas.
